Umimachi Diary, 2015

Just like the previous film, this is a comedy-drama, but of a slightly different kind. Here we will be told about four girls and the relationships between them. They are bonded by blood, but they need to overcome misunderstandings, resentment and find a way to forgive each other.

Strange country Japan. Where else could they make a film about how cutting down trees is a real art?? Not everyone will be given an ax in their hands yet. You have to earn it first! Gain mastery. Before going deep into the forest, you first need to find a common language with the forest spirits and respect nature. If you anger them, you will get lost in the forest and die. By the way, the film is a good comedy.

In fact, a very lamp, not stupid and hilarious movie. I laughed until I cried. In the story, the guy failed his exams. Doesn’t know where to go or where to work. So he saw a booklet with a proposal to cut down the forest, and on it there was a girl like from the cover of a magazine. So our fool rushed to distant lands. He arrives at the place and asks the local workers from the village: where is the girl?? And they told him: “Anta Baka?! You really bought it? Confessions / Kokuhaku, 2010

Oh, what a difficult movie, but very powerful. Reminds me a lot of Old Boy and Mrs. Vengeance. Like those films, it’s very violent and disturbing. Honestly, it’s hard for me to even think about him, let alone write. The spectacle is not for the faint of heart. The evening you decide to spend with this film will not be a lamp at all. You need to prepare for this in advance.

Technically the film is amazing. Very good cinematography and many impressive and memorable visual moments.

Tenshi no koi / My rainy days, 2010

The main character, together with her school friends, practices "enjo-kosai". In other words, dating guys for money. Money scam in short. She’s a crook. Here. However, Rio Ozawa is not an ordinary person and experienced some tragic incident unknown until a certain point in the film. All this time she only pretended to be soulless and callous in order to hide her psychological trauma from others. After the girl meets a teacher named Ozawa Kouki, we begin to see the positive aspects of her personality. Rio is trying with all his might to fix his life and become a better person. They have interesting chemistry and many sad and funny moments together. I really enjoyed the movie a lot. Although I sat down with him somewhat reluctantly.

This is a great romantic movie. Extremely charming and cute. Girls will definitely like the film, I don’t know about guys.

Dear Friends / Dear Friends, 2007

If this were some kind of Oscar-worthy drama, I would turn it off after ten minutes. But the Japanese know how to tell such stories in their own way, evoking emotions in the audience. However, this is probably the weakest film on the list and, nevertheless, I think it deserves your attention.

According to the plot of the film, a girl named Rina has no real friends. She’s only used to using people for her own purposes. This continued until it turned out that she had breast cancer. Despite this, she is not a very pleasant person; a long-forgotten childhood friend named Maki came to see her at the hospital.

Special mention goes to actress Kitagawa Keiko, who did an excellent job in her role. Largely because of her, the film is praised.
